DIY Homemade Coffee Scrub

Hello, my name is Samantha and I am addicted to coffee! Seriously! I absolutely LOVE coffee. My typical morning ritual includes sipping a strong cup of coffee while melting into my couch, allowing the sunshine to wrap around my skin all while setting my intention for the day. I usually compost my coffee grounds however, I came to the realization that I am basically throwing away an amazing ingredient for a DIY Homemade Coffee Scrub.

Rumor has it that scrubbing with coffee grounds may reduce the appearance of cellulite temporarily. The caffeine in coffee stimulates dilation while the scrubbing motion increases circulation, plumping up the skin and possibly reducing the appearance of cellulite. Another added bonus is that coffee is packed with antioxidants which are anti-inflammatory and excellent for your skin.

Ingredients:

1 cup organic ground coffee (fresh or used*)

1/4 cup organic brown sugar (or sea salt)

1/2 cup almond oil (you can also use olive oil or coconut oil)

10 drops of high quality  essential oils (I used 5 drops of peppermint & 5 drops of lavender)

*Fresh coffee grounds will work best since they have not been steeped. Fresh coffee will be more potent and will store longer. If using freshly steeped aka used coffee be sure to use it immediately. The longer “used” coffee sits around the greater the chance you have to introduce bacteria into the mix! No thanks!

Instructions:

Combine and mix ingredients in a bowl. To use, wet skin and apply scrub to skin. Start at your feet and work your way up to your heart, gently rubbing the scrub in a circular motion. Go slow and take your time. Feel free to let the mixture sit on your skin for a few moments. Clean as much as you can with a towel (to avoid clogging up the drain) and then remove the rest in the shower or kitchen sink. Dry yourself off and apply your favorite all natural lotion.
